11 international students enjoyed this semester’s Homestay/Home visit Program organized by Nisshin International Association on the weekend of November 10th & 11th. All the students spent quality time with their host families and learned more about Japanese life and culture. Please check their reports!

Student from Taiwan

On November 10th and 11th, I joined the homestay program in Nisshin, spending two days with a lovely Japanese family. There are four people in their family, the parents speak English well and their two kids did their best to speak in English with me. They treated me so well that I felt like being part of their family.

On the first day, we went to the south of Nagoya (Minamichita Cho) to see the sea and have traditional Japanese cuisine. And after lunch, we went to pick oranges (みかん狩り), collecting a big quantity of oranges. After all the interesting activities, they took me to their house. Besides, we had すき焼き as dinner, which was mouth-watering. For the entire night, we spent time talking a lot about the differences in our cultures.

On the second day, they brought me to their hometown in Gifu Prefecture. We took a walk around the beautiful town and ate barbecue in their yard. To my surprise, all the food was in Japanese style and super delicious, like 五平餅 and サンマ. We stayed there for about 5 hours, talking, laughing and enjoying the food. I really appreciate the Homestay program as I had chance to meet this family, and experience aspects of the real Japanese life.

Students from Korea & Malaysia

The homestay program was truly a special experience for us.

We went to the Inuyama Castle which is one of the National Treasures of Japan, the old Japanese houses and the chariot used for the Inuyama Festival.

At our host’s house, we experienced the Japanese tea ceremony and the flower arrangement (known as Ikebana).

It was a really pleasant and special experience and I believe that anyone who come to study in Japan should participate as you get to feel such cultural elements with a Japanese family.
