Every year, the Faculty of International Studies organizes an English speech contest for the students with self-decided topics to present and share their stories and ideas to an audience.
The 28th edition, held on the 20th of June, was open to the seminar representatives in their 2nd year and other candidates, all from the Faculty of International Studies, making up a group of 13 participants in the end.
The students in the audience were composed of 2nd year students also from the Faculty of International Studies and other students who were eager to support their friends on the stage. Faculty members and staff also attended the contest.
When time comes for this event, we are always expecting bright ideas and interesting stories and this is a great opportunity for the students to learn how to deliver a powerful speech to an audience, which is a great skill for their future careers. And accordingly, we receive students who always make a powerful presence on the stage and leave us a memorable image of themselves.
Awards
There are 3 distinct awards for the winners of the contest:
- Judges’ award (decided by a panel of 3 professors)
- Students’ award (voted by the students in the audience)
- Faculty and staff award (voted by the members of faculty and staff)
The panel bases its judgement on three categories: content, presentation skills and proficiency; while the students, faculty and staff members are expected to vote as objectively as possible.
For the 28th edition,
- Judges’ award was granted to Junna Tsuda for “Racial Discrimination”
- Students’ award was granted to Erina Hori for “My Precious Family”
- Faculty and staff award was granted to Akane Sato for “A Sign of True Kindness”
Congratulations to all the participants!
Hopefully this was a great experience for all of them and we will be looking forward to the next speech contest.
